Workshop on the route of guarantees and legal protection in the Resguardo San Miguel de la Castellana

On 25 and 26 September 2021, at the cabildo house of the Inga Indigenous Reservation of San Miguel de la Castellana, in Villagarzón, the first workshop was held to build the pathway of guarantees and legal protection of individual, economic, social, cultural, collective, ethnic and environmental rights. It formed part of ACIMVIP's human rights strengthening process with the support of the Norwegian Human Rights Fund, and had 44 participants, according to the attendance list.

The workshop was facilitated by Protection International, an organization headquartered in Belgium that accompanies peoples and organizations defending their rights. It opened with a welcome from the governor of the Reservation and the harmonization of the space by the spiritual authority, in accordance with the customs of the Inga People.

The agenda aimed to build, in a participatory manner, with the authorities and the Wasikamas, an assessment of the security situation of the Inga People in Villagarzón, so that the Indigenous guard and the community's own authorities could update their risk analysis, recognize the differentiated risks faced by women and young Wasikamas, and identify community protection capacities and practices. On the first day, work was done through social mapping in groups, one of them made up only of women, and in a plenary session; the second day focused on analysis from within the community: its capacities and its weaknesses.
