Territory
Nukanchipa Alpa Amukunapa Wasi · Vida Maskarigridiru
Our Ancestral Territory in the Middle Putumayo, in Villagarzón, Puerto Guzmán and Mocoa: titled reserves, the area where we live and sacred places cared for by the Wasikamas, the Inga Indigenous Guard. It is a single territory lived in two belts.

Defence of the territory
Our struggles for the dignity and rights of the People and the territory
The Ancestral Territory has been defended since colonisation began. Today we defend prior consent and self-determination against carbon-credit projects we did not consent to, oil and large roads; we defend our title and our knowledge; we defend peace; and we care for the environment as first responders.
Our struggles for prior consent and self-determination
Our forests are not sold without our consent
A carbon-credit project was signed over the territory without the consent our self-government requires. We filed a constitutional action (tutela) and are investigating who uses those credits.
We demand of: the project companies (Yauto, Carbo Sostenible, Aracea and others), their certifier and their verifier
About this struggle (in Spanish) →The long struggle against extractive industries
La Cabaña is the emblematic case: licensed without consultation in 2014, suspended in 2015 and never restored. There are seven more consultation processes.
We demand of: the operator with a consultation in the territory (Gran Tierra Energy)
About this struggle (in Spanish) →Ruta al Sur: consultation before the road
A public-private partnership megaproject crosses our territory in its Functional Unit 7. In 2016 it was certified that there were no Indigenous communities; we demand consultation on the whole unit, with all the ethnic subjects of the territory.
We demand of: the Ruta al Sur concessionaire, the National Infrastructure Agency and the Ministry of the Interior
About this struggle (in Spanish) →Defence of ancestrality, medicine and knowledge
They are not oil companies, but they also put the territory at risk: the dispute over the collective title and the commercial use of our medicine and our knowledge.
Annulment, colonisation and false doubts about our ancestrality
Thirty claimants seek to annul the agreement that constituted the Reserve. The case is on appeal before the Council of State; the Reserve remains in force.
Against: the claim to annul the collective title
About this struggle (in Spanish) →Defending our medicine, our knowledge and our biodiversity
Medicine, knowledge and sacred sites are not merchandise or a tourist destination without the consent of our authorities.
Against: the commercial use of our medicine, our knowledge and biodiversity without the consent of our authorities
About this struggle (in Spanish) →Join the defense of the territory: file an amicus curiae at second instance
Two cases at second instance: the tutela for prior consent against the carbon-credit project, and the defence of the Reserve title before the Council of State.
