The President of ACIMVIP carries the voice of the Inga People to the Parliament of Canada
During the week of October 5 to 9, 2026, the President of ACIMVIP, Ingry Paola Mojanajinsoy Buesaquillo, carried the voice of the Inga People of Villagarzón to the Parliament of Canada, in Ottawa, together with leaders of Indigenous Peoples of Canada and the Amazon and with parliamentarians from both regions.
As Stand.earth reported, the decisions of the Canadian government and of fossil fuel companies such as Gran Tierra, Copper Giant and LNG Canada affect not only First Nations, but also Indigenous Peoples and local communities throughout the Amazon. For this reason, parliamentarians and Indigenous leaders from both regions joined together to mobilize for a just energy transition and for accountability.
At a press conference, Indigenous Peoples of Canada and the Colombian Amazon warned that the Canadian government and fossil fuel companies have not honored their commitments to free, prior and informed consent, as a signatory of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. The message was a single one: this planet is not for sale.
For the Inga People of Villagarzón, the case of Gran Tierra Energy and the La Cabaña APE, in our ancestral territory, is part of that same struggle for consent and for the care of the territory.
