The long struggle against extractive industries

Oil has sought to enter our territory in at least nine prior consultation procedures.

Emblematic case

La Cabaña

The La Cabaña exploratory drilling area was licensed in 2014 without prior consultation with the Inga People. Works began in 2015 and that same August it was suspended for lack of consultation. Ten years later there has been no restoration: a satellite assessment from October 2025, carried out with an allied organisation, shows compacted soil, trenches and grass where there was forest.

We demand that the dismantling and abandonment be subject to consultation, and a real restoration. The appeal we filed in November 2022 remains undecided. In August 2026 the company announced the sale of its business in Colombia and Ecuador. The transaction is subject to approvals and its closing is expected by the end of 2026. The sale does not extinguish the dismantling and restoration obligations, which remain the responsibility of whoever controls the company.

How it has unfolded
