Our forests are not sold without our consent

A thirty-year carbon credit project signed without our free, prior and informed consent.

What we defend

The Mandate of the Elders prohibits green economies in the Ancestral Territory. Even so, in 2021 a mandate contract was signed for a carbon credit project over our forests, planned from 2020 to 2050, which declares 210.616 tonnes of carbon reduced in its first two years.

The Inga People are not asking for a new consultation: they ask that their autonomous decision to suspend all relations with the project's companies be respected, as ratified at the Territorial Thought Minga of 25 October 2025.

How it has unfolded

  1. 2021A mandate contract is signed that the Inga People do not recognise as valid consent.
  2. 13 Feb. 2025The authorities suspend in writing all relations with the project's companies.
  3. 25 Oct. 2025The Minga ratifies the suspension of relations with the companies and decides to go to the courts.
  4. 4 Sep. 2026Own report on the carbon certificate boom.
  5. 8 Sep. 2026The tutela (constitutional action) is filed.
  6. 17 Sep. 2026The first instance rejects it as inadmissible.
  7. 18 Sep. 2026Challenged: it is now at second instance.

If you are an ally

We have already filed the challenge to the ruling that declared the tutela inadmissible. We invite allied organisations to submit an amicus curiae before the 33rd Civil Circuit Court of Bogotá, Judge Alfredo Martínez de la Hoz, which is hearing the second instance, so that the ruling is overturned and the free, prior and informed consent of the Inga People is examined on the merits.

Case number: 11001418904720260167601 · filed on 29 September 2026.

How to submit it: write to us at coordinacionddhhacimvip@gmail.com (ACIMVIP Human Rights Coordination) to receive the public case file, and cite the case number of the proceeding in your submission.
