What we do
The Wasikamas and the Chaskis patrol the territory, and the communities document what they see. This is how we act as first responders to environmental damage: we activate our own protection and emergency system, survey the area and keep a record.
The prior consultations themselves acknowledge it: in the area of San Miguel de la Castellana «there have been actions by third parties that have caused spills, as well as spills due to technical problems» (Moqueta Chaza consultation file).
What we have documented
- 2 Oct. 2024 · WasipungoAccording to the report of the Wasikamas of the Wasipungo Reserve, in the early hours the valves of six tanker trucks were opened in the car park of the Costayaco 3 well and the crude oil reached the Danta Iaku stream. The Wasikamas activated our own protection and emergency system, surveyed the area and found a channel with filters and a grease trap connecting the platform with the water source. According to the same report, the environmental authority and the company then stated that the emergency was under control.
- 3 Oct. 2024According to the company, as cited by the local press, unknown persons opened the valves of the tanker trucks (Conexión Putumayo, 2 Oct. 2024). According to Ambiente y Sociedad, Corpoamazonia inspected the area on 3 October and sent its technical opinion to the ANLA.

What we ask
- That every report from the community receive a response from the environmental authority. We will ask the environmental authority for the technical opinion and the status of the procedure.
- That the environmental agreements formalised in the consultations be fulfilled.
