Characterization walk of the ancestral territory of the Inga Indigenous Resguardo of Albania
On 5 and 6 August 2025, at the Inga Indigenous Reservation of Albania (Albania village, township of Puerto Umbría, municipality of Villagarzón), the walk to characterize the ancestral territory was carried out, with georeferencing and data collection, on the Panga Iaco property. The activity was convened by ACIMVIP under the REM Visión Amazonía Programme, for the Reservation's Life Plan project (VAII-SA-001-2025), and brought together 35 people according to the attendance record.
The walk was conceived as a practice of ancestral recognition and appreciation of the territory: walking with the community, with knowledge-holders of medicinal plants and timber species, women seed collectors, Wasikamas (guardians of the territory) and children. To gather the information, coordinates of sites of interest, record sheets, recordings and photographs were combined. The purpose is to strengthen cultural identity, spirituality and ties with nature, to remember the boundaries of each plot, and to monitor changes across generations in order to define action plans.
The territorial self-assessment compiled during the walk recalls that the Reservation was constituted by INCORA Resolution 0081 of 9 December 1999, and that the community has recovered territory with its own resources and with land donated by families; it notes that the expansion request has been pending for more than eight years without an effective response from the State. Among the findings, the elders indicate that the chagras are planted on the floodplains of the Putumayo and San Vicente rivers, that fishing continues to sustain families while hunting has declined, that boundaries, once respected by word of mouth, are now set by measurements and maps, and that the Reservation's streams receive wastewater discharges from fish ponds despite calls to Corpoamazonía.
