Safeguard Plan of the Inga People: assessment and general guidelines
The «Safeguard Plan of the Inga People: assessment and general guidelines» (in the Inga language, «Nukanchipa Kausaikunata Iuiaikunata Mana Uañungapa Sakisunchi»: «So that our life and thought may endure») was prepared by the Inga People of Colombia with the Ministry of the Interior and is dated February 2013. It responds to Constitutional Court Order (Auto) 004 of 2009, which ordered the State to prepare safeguard plans for 34 Indigenous peoples at risk of physical and cultural extinction. The document has 230 pages.
The assessment was built with the grassroots communities and with the community's own research processes led by the facilitators of seven zones, through assessment activities, assemblies, gatherings and knowledge dialogues with the voices of the Inga elders, men, women and children of each community. The Plan is organized into axes: territory and environment; governance, command and threads of harmony and spirituality; education and culture; health and traditional medicine; basic sanitation; chagra and economy; and cities and borders; and it closes with the lines of action.
For the Inga People, the Safeguard Plan is a pathway that guarantees their survival, in honour of the memory of the elders, and a roadmap for safeguarding the People and guiding programmes and projects. ACIMVIP's documents page groups it with Constitutional Court Order (Auto) 004 of 2009. The full document can be consulted.
