Members of the Inga Resguardo of Calenturas, in Putumayo, claimed the 3,066 hectares of their territory
The lawsuit was filed by the Director General of the Land Restitution Unit (URT), Andrés Castro. A positive decision would benefit about 190 people of the Resguardo, located in the municipality of Puerto Guzmán.
Mocoa, January 20, 2020 (@URestitucion). The claim seeks comprehensive reparation for the community of the Inga Resguardo of Calenturas; the recognition of its members as victims of violence; and the restoration of their rights over the territory.
If a favorable judgment is issued, the decision would benefit 45 families made up of 187 people. “From the Land Restitution Unit, we work to recover not only the territory but everything that restitution entails by law for this community, and reparation based on their recognition as victims of the conflict,” said Director Castro.
The document mainly sets out 42 claims, including the design of the Comprehensive Collective Reparation Plan; the implementation of measures to recover and restore the environment and ecosystems fragmented by illegal mining; the application of security measures; productive project programs; and the promotion of comprehensive mine action activities against antipersonnel mines.
“For the first time we feel a light of hope; the moment the community had so long awaited has arrived and we thank the entity for the effort and dedication it has given to this process”, said Jaime Jojoa, Indigenous governor of the Inga Resguardo of Calenturas.
The community's displacement resulted from the conflict between illegal armed groups in the late 1990s in Putumayo, a situation that worsened, resulting in the rupture of their social fabric and their relationship with their territory. The effort to benefit the Resguardo was carried out through the Directorate of Ethnic Affairs of the URT, the area that advanced the construction of the claim presented to the community.
