Amazonian Indigenous Peoples want no more oil projects
El Espectador spoke with several leaders who warn of the serious consequences they have had to live with because of oil exploration and exploitation. They say their communities face contamination of water sources and the displacement of fish; they speak of rights violations and of the need to survive in the face of the arrival of companies seeking so-called black gold. The overlap pits the Government's economic vision against that of the Indigenous people, who speak of defending ecosystems necessary for their Peoples. All the spotlights are on compliance with the decision of ANLA, which said at the end of March that from 2022 companies requiring environmental licenses —such as oil companies— will be required to present climate change adaptation and mitigation measures.
