The Inga People of Villagarzón remain in a peaceful Minga of Resistance in support of the National Strike

On 16 May 2021, from Villagarzón, the reservations of the Indigenous Peoples, the peasant and Afro-descendant communities, youth sectors and other mobilized sectors of Villagarzón (Putumayo), Piamonte (Cauca) and Jardines de Sucumbíos reiterated their support for the National Strike and declared that they remained in a peaceful Minga of Resistance in the streets of Putumayo. The statement is signed by, among others, the Cabildo Regional of the Nasa People of Putumayo, ACIMVIP, the Association of Indigenous Cabildos of the Awá People of Putumayo (ACIPAP), the Zonal Indigenous Organization of Putumayo (OZIP), the Embera People, and peasant, human rights, youth, student, trade union, merchant and transport organizations.

According to the statement, after 18 days of mobilization the organizations demand compliance with the peace agreements, an end to glyphosate spraying in the territories, an end to the killing of leaders and respect for the right to protest, in the face of the tax reform and police conduct. They therefore decided to move, from that 16 May and indefinitely, their protest point to the Costayaco oil production area of the company Gran Tierra Energy Colombia, which they asked to suspend its operations and not to obstruct the peaceful mobilization; they asked the national Government to halt the expansion of mining and energy supply and operations in the department and to listen to the population. The document proposes a national agenda built with the Colombian people, especially with the historically vulnerable population.
