Inga Women: Knowledge and Their Own Knowledge Systems

Recognition of the knowledge and the own knowledge systems of Inga women for territorial and environmental safeguarding. The 6-minute 14-second video was recorded in 2022 in Villagarzón (Putumayo) and published by ACIMVIP on its YouTube channel on 28 December 2022.

On this same topic ACIMVIP published, with the support of the Norwegian Human Rights Fund, the booklet «Territorial and environmental defence based on the spiritual knowledge and wisdom of Inga Women», built from the words of the women of the Inga People of Villagarzón. The booklet describes the Inga woman as a spiritual being linked to the territory, knowledgeable in traditional medicine and the care of plants, and compiles the practices with which women protect the territory and the environment: the community's own pedagogy with girls and boys, the conservation of the chagra as a system that houses education, medicine and food sovereignty, water-source reforestation with endemic species, the rejection of agrochemicals, the use of gourds and leaves instead of plastics, and the taking of remedy (yagé) as protection of the territory and the People.
