Sacha Muiu, moriche plant: eight Inga communities produce canangucha oil

On May 26, 2023 Mongabay Latam reported that Sacha Muiu, an association of eight Inga communities of Villagarzón founded on March 31, 2021, opened its moriche processing plant in February 2023, able to produce 500 liters of cosmetic oil a year. The project seeks to recover the moriche palm groves and offer steady work as an alternative to logging and cattle ranching, with 5 hectares set aside for restoration through reforestation, 2.92 hectares for conservation and 0.047 hectares of vulnerable species.
