Yagé: taking the medicine for territorial protection
The Inga Indigenous Reservation of Albania, in Villagarzón (Putumayo), has turned to the taking of yagé to harmonize its community amid two factors that threaten its survival in the Amazon rainforest: the armed conflict and extractive projects. This is how it is presented in the Verdad Abierta video published on 18 March 2025, part of the project «Disinformation and stigmatization: changing local narratives in Colombia», implemented by Protection International and VerdadAbierta.com with the support of the European Union. The video closes with thanks to the Governor, the elders and the former governor of the Reservation.
The Reservation's 2026 Life Plan, dated August 2026, records this practice from the community's own perspective: in Albania, spiritual ceremonies are held with the taking of the Ambi Waska remedy (yagé), accompanied by traditional doctors from other communities of the same People and from other peoples, and in conciliation processes the taking of yagé enables reflection, inner healing and forgiveness, helping to restore balance between individuals and the community.
