Statement: support for the National Strike and request for high-level dialogue
On 1 June 2021, from Villagarzón, ACIMVIP issued a public statement reaffirming its support for the ongoing National Strike and calling for high-level dialogue on the part of the Government. The statement responds to the events of 31 May 2021 near the Costayaco oil well, which, according to the statement, left three people injured and one dead at the hands of uniformed officers of the police counter-narcotics group in the area of Putumayo, Piamonte (Cauca) and Jardines de Sucumbíos, and to the violations of the fundamental right to social protest and of human rights that it describes.
The Indigenous Peoples, peasant communities, youth groups, Afro-descendant communities and other social sectors of the region reiterate their support for and solidarity with the national movement, and propose opening high-level dialogue channels, led by people with decision-making power in the Government of President Iván Duque, in order to reach agreements and discuss the demands of those mobilizing, particularly in Putumayo. They announce that they will continue exercising social protest, open to dialogue and peacefully resisting at the gathering points established since the Minga of Resistance began in the department, in defence of territory, life and fundamental rights.
