ACIMVIP presents the project «Baitawami kincharirkani» to the communities at Iuiai Wasi

On 25 July 2022, at Iuiai Wasi, ACIMVIP's headquarters in Villagarzón, the project «Baitawami kincharirkani, waira mana iaikungapa» («I protected myself with a shawl, so that the wind would not get in») was presented to the communities. The project aims to strengthen the protection guarantees and capacities of the Authorities, Chaskis, Wasikamas and women leaders in the defence of the human, collective and territorial rights of the Inga People of Villagarzón, and is supported by the Norwegian Human Rights Fund. Twenty people attended the meeting, according to the attendance list.

The presentation set out the purpose of the project: that the Authorities, Chaskis, Wasikamas and women leaders know and understand, in their own language, the policies, tools and strategies for individual and collective protection, and enjoy trust and a relationship respectful of their culture, territoriality, spirituality and own systems with the organizations and entities responsible for protection guarantees.

The planned activities and products presented included six meetings with organizations and entities, a documentary archive of legal, administrative and advocacy actions, a team for legal protection and the Human Rights Coordination, two Suma Iuiai Nukanchipa Alpa Manda knowledge-exchange forums, four training sessions, eleven mingas de pensamiento, general and special protection plans for Indigenous women, four harmonization ceremonies and a video on collective spiritual protection through the practice of ambiwaska. The presentation closed with open questions to the communities about who would take part, which authorities, taitas and knowledge-holders would guide the process, where the activities would take place and which protection and self-protection topics they wished to address in the training sessions.
