Launch of the territorial governance project with Amazonía Mía and Sacha Muiu

The safeguarding of our territory is the defence of our existence and survival!

ACIMVIP, in coordination with the Sacha Muiu Association and the Inga authorities of Villagarzón, launched on 25 September 2023 the project entitled “Strengthening territorial governance and self-government of the communities of the Inga People of Villagarzón (Putumayo), which forms part of the fulfilment of ACIMVIP's Strategic Plan, the Mandate of the Elders Suma Kausangapa, and which seeks, through territorial governance strategies, to strengthen its self-government, territorial monitoring strategies, and to reduce deforestation based on “SUMA KAUSANGAPA” in order to conserve and safeguard biodiversity”, in line with USAID's Amazonía Mía programme, in fulfilment of fixed amount agreement No. AA-GRA-026.”

Following the work schedule, activities were carried out in the Inga Indigenous Reserve of Wasipungo, with the presentation and agreement of the project Work Plan with the 10 communities of the Inga People of Villagarzón, defining logistical and participation aspects; the meeting brought together authorities and other delegates of the various communities that are part of this project.

The activities are always guided by traditional medicine, through the counsel of the elders Iachas Sinchis; in the traditional way, the spiritual harmonisation ceremony opening the project, under AGREEMENT No. AA-GRA-026 of 2023, was held at the Tambo of the Inga Indigenous Reserve of Nukanchipa Alpa Amukunapa Wasi with the participation of governors, guardians of the territory (Wasikamas) and the working team of this project; through this space, within the framework of the uses and customs of the Inga People of Villagarzón, the aim is to consolidate the comprehensive strengthening of the communities and to guide the development of the activities, and also to ensure they yield the best results for the communities.

With the support and guidance of the elders Iachas Sinchis, the boundary-marking ceremony was held on 1 October 2023 at the Tambo of the Inga Indigenous Reserve of Nukanchipa Alpa Amukunapa Wasi, seeking harmony and the necessary guidance for the collection of native seeds to reforest certain territorial areas of the communities that were affected when the territory they now inhabit had not yet been recognised as a Reserve; work will thus proceed with the most affected communities, which show a considerable level of deforestation, in the Inga Indigenous Reserve of Albania, the Inga Indigenous Reserve of San Miguel de la Castellana and the Inga Indigenous Reserve of Blasiaku, which, if not prevented in time, may continue to affect and disharmonise the territory.
